Strong Power Discharge VS Lead Acid Battery

Lithium (LFP) batteries have strong advantages over lead acid (LA) for use in cruising yacht house batteries. In practice LA batteries on boats often only last about 500-600 cycles. This is due to the heat in the tropics and difficulty in fully charging LA batteries with the boat systems, leading to sulfication.
With LFP these two problems do not happen. Some yacht LFP systems have been in successful operation for 4 years and are living up to their promise. 

LFP battery banks on yachts are typically in the range of 200AH to 800AH. 

Many yachtsmen would like to switch to LFP batteries but are discouraged by a) the complexity of converting to LFP and b) the cost of LFP. While LA replacement packs are a step in the right direction,
they do not fully address the requirements of yacht systems, and this document will expand on this.
The house battery on an RV (recreational vehicle) will probably have very similar design requirements as that of a house battery on a yacht, and any product developed for yachts will probably also apply to RVs. On a yacht, safety is the very first consideration. There is no inherent problem with LiFePO4 batteries which are considered by many to be safer that LA, but consideration must be given to how they are used, especially as electrical power is critical for navigation, radio and other safety equipment. The second important issue is extending the life of the expensive battery pack for as long as possible. The suggestions in this document address these issues.
Cruising yachtsmen generally are more technically orientated than most as they need to be able to repair and adjust systems in remote locations. Therefore the LFP battery pack can have comprehensive user settings which may not desirable on a simple LA replacement pack.
These suggestions are for a house battery, which has low C charging and discharge rates, compared to an EV or engine start applications with high C requirements.
